Over the course of a year, author, illustrator, and avid collector of human experience Maira Kalman kept an online graphic diary for The New York Times called “The Principles of Uncertainty.” In this dance-theater collaboration, choreographer John Heginbotham brings Kalman’s candy-colored musings on travel, beauty, and mortality to fanciful, moving life. Inspired by the various walks the two acclaimed artists took together over many months, The Principles of Uncertainty is a meditation on the objects, memories, friends, and strangers that fill our days. As Kalman herself passes the time onstage, dancers move to music performed live by members of chamber ensemble The Knights in this telescopic vision of everyday wonder.
